Jesus Justice

My Pondering

“Why, dear friends, the Christian man, after he is saved, repents more than ever he did before, for now he repents not merely of overt deeds, but even of imaginations. He will take himself to task at night, and chide himself because he had tolerated one foul thought; because he has looked on vanity, though perhaps the heart had gone no further than the look of lust; because the thought of evil has flitted through his mind — for all this he will vex himself before God; and were it not that he still continues to believe the gospel, one foul imagination would be such a plague and sting to him, that he would have no peace and no rest. When temptation comes to him the good man finds the use of repentance, for having hated sin and fled from it of old, he has ceased to be what he once was.”

Charles Spurgeon

That’s good to be aware of our sinful nature of our flesh but don’t stay there, in a state of defeat, one of depravity because at the cross Jesus shouted, “It is finished!” He defeated our sin there. His righteousness is ours, once and for all.

So yes, let’s strive for holiness as God told us to be holy as He is such. Let’s also abide in Christ and be about overcoming sinful nature as it rears its ugly head.

And yes, let’s yet understand we believers have a new Spirit, we NOW are a ‘redeemed soul with a faulty body’; no longer a ‘rebellious body with a disconnected soul’.

God’s justice is sure.
God’s grace is surer.

Because of Jesus we can sing:

“Victory is mine,
Victory is mine,
Victory today is mine.

I told Satan to get thee behind,
Victory today is mine.

Victory is mine,
Victory is mine,
Victory today is mine.

I told Satan to get thee behind,
Victory today is mine.”

(From the Hymn: Victory is mine)
