Giving is so important for a variety of reasons. One reason is that we are close and like our Maker. God is the ultimate giver. By giving, it is a conduit for blessing. Givers gain, sooner or later. We are give generously, sacrificially and joyfully. We give begrudgingly, we shouldn’t give. If we give to be noticed and public accolades, we lose our long term rewards which go into eternity. God promises rewards for givers and the more sacrificially, the greater the reward. God tells us give our first fruits to Him. It’s not for His good (for He has everything He could want or need) but rather for the good of others and ourselves. It is one of the few things in the Bible, if not only area, we God tells us to test Him.
