My Pondering
Ponder this one. 11 of the 12 of Jesus’s disciples (Paul the 12th) were each martyred for their faith, Christ was as well. John was tortured and left to die on a deserted island, where he wrote Revelation. Yet, none of these people recanted. Go figure?
Their Gospel story wasn’t one for riches, power or fame but rather eternal rewards, glory to God and much temporary pain.
Wouldn’t be the first time someone was willing to take a difficult path through life , and/or certain death, for a belief in something, or someone. (David Koresh, Jim jones, Applewhite, Hubbard). Those are just some recent American examples. The behavior of Jesus disciples, to me, is the same… and all examples of our mental weakness that seeks out divine, and mystical solutions to the unknown and uncomfortable.
