Not do but receive then do – John 3:16-19

These words were spoken by the Lord Jesus in virtually the same breath as the overwhelmingly popular John 3:16.

For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that everyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.

John 3:16 BSB

They give the necessary context and balance to the good news of the Gospel…

17 For God did not send His Son into the world that He might judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.

18 Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.

19 And this is the judgement, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light; for their deeds were evil.

John 3:17-19

Did you catch the word ‘might’ be saved?

Let’s do all we can not be left out. They great things is we don’t really have ‘to do’ anything as Christ has already finished it, we just need to ‘receive’ His precious grace by faith in Jesus.

Then, we as disciples got disciplines to do, commands to obey and people to help. Lord help us abide in You.
