Food and Health

I am all for eating healthy (at least most of the time) but I also want to enjoy food too.

“If we don’t make time for our necessary health, we will be forced to make time for unnecessary ailments.”

To one extreme we can become gluttons. That’s not good as we read here:

Be not among drunkards or among gluttonous eaters of meat,

Proverbs 23:20

But Israel soon became fat and unruly; the people grew heavy, plump, and stuffed!

Then they abandoned the God who had made them; they made light of the Rock of their salvation.

Deuteronomy 32:15

We are to be good stewards of everything and most certainly our bodies.

Yet to the other extreme, it can be a form of idolatry as some people worship their bodies which are all going to grow old and die regardless.

for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.

1st Timothy 4:8

“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?

Matthew 6:25

We all should find a good balance between the physical and spiritual loves. A healthy lifestyle is certainly important but it should distant second to a healthy sanctification as one lasts for about a 100 years and the other for infinity.

Both take discipline.

Yet all work and no play, makes for a very dull life. Harmony, oh Lord may You help each of us have harmonic balance.
