Pondering Psalms 39:4 — 5 – Breathe the breath of God

“O LORD, make me know my end

and what is the measure of my days;

let me know how fleeting I am!

Behold, you have made my days a few handbreadths,

and my lifetime is as nothing before you.

Surely all mankind stands as a mere breath! Selah”

Psalms 39:4 — 5

My take: Breathe the breath of God. I know this it not a fun topic that David wrestles here with his own mortality. He concludes that life is all too fragile. He no doubt witnessed plenty of death, as he was a valiant warrior. Part of our makeup as humans is we all too often to ignore our mortality. David was mature and wise enough to realize this bit of hard truth and use it to empower him. Our life is just a twinkle in time. However, our souls are built for eternity. So there lies the friction between our temporary fleshly body and eternal soul. I am not trying to sell financial life insurance here but rather eternal soul life assurance. Today is the day for tomorrow may not be. Jesus is knocking and desires to secure your soul for paradise. Ready to take the next step? Read and respond to the Bible, starting with the Gospels, suggest the book of John.

My prayer: Lord, You raised up Adam with Your breath. May my breath be in sync with You. Help me value and make the most of my time here on Earth.
