“But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope:
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
His mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is Your faithfulness.
“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,
“therefore I will hope in Him.”” Lamentations 3:21-2
My take: What an awesome passage for us. Can there be anything better and more encouraging?
I notice two primary points therein.
1) The LORD’s love is steady and abundant, like the sun.
When it’s dark, He hasn’t moved; we have. Just like the earth.
2) The catalyst to sustaining hope is being mindful of God.
Sometimes bad things happen to good people. Sometimes good things happen to bad people. Oftentimes good things happen to people trying to be godly and bad things happen to people neglectful of God; their Creator, Sustainer and Restorer. Regardless, God is ultimately boss!
What is amazing about God (not that He is any limited but one amazing attribute) is that He is a supreme specialist in using negative circumstances for our good and His glory.
I don’t believe that’s His first choice but it’s sure a mighty second.
Did God set up and predestine Adam and Eve succumb to the schemes of Satan in paradise?
No! That would be cruel and quite unloving.
Was He surprised when they disobeyed Him and ate from the one forbidden fruit?
Not a chance. He was ready to roll plan B (the great flood) and then C (the great Christ).
Because of original sin, neither of us had a choice as did Adam and Eve’s choice. Sin effects and condemns us all now (Romans 6:23)
Yet because of God’s love, the Bible proclaims a second Adam was sent and therefore the choice has been restored for each of us.
Do we choose to accept the gift of restoration Jesus is offering at this very moment or shall we continue with our backs turned away from the Son and remain in darkness?
God, not being bound by time like us, knows it all and will not be mocked. Still yet is long-suffering and steadfast in love. Hope and faith are only as good as what supports them. I can think of no better support than Jesus. How about you?
My prayer: LORD, help me keep my mind on the main thing and that is You!
