“I wait for the LORD, my soul waits,
Psalms 130:5—6
and in His word I hope;
my soul waits for the Lord
more than watchmen for the morning,
more than watchmen for the morning.”

My take: Oh there are times in life when we are ‘on watch’. I remember my days in the Navy being on ‘watch duty’ at night. They were the longest hours. Up when normally sleeping when most everyone else is snoozing, and oh so dark and long. As a dutiful seaman, sleep is not an option.It’s just an odd and eery time. Waiting and watching and watching and waiting thru the night. But there is hope! Hope that the sun will rise, hope that at 0800 your relief will arrive, hope that is goes well.
There are time in our Christian life when we need to do the same. No doubt there are times when God puts us out on watch at night. Sailers and soldiers have their regulations, operating procedures and chain of command. So does the dutiful Christian. The seaman has his ‘bluejacket manual’ and the Christian his ‘Bible’.
My prayer: My hope is in You. Though I can not see, hear or touch You physically my spirit can in a way. I eagerly await Your next order and light of day; the Light of the world; the bright morning Star.
