“But let all who take refuge in you rejoice;

let them ever sing for joy,

and spread your protection over them,

that those who love your name may exult in you.

For you bless the righteous, O Lord;

you cover him with favor as with a shield.”

Psalms 5:11-12

My pondering: What a beautiful picture and graphic poetic writing from the warrior, musician and writer King David, directed by the Holy Spirit. We see that one needs to rejoice upon taking refuge in God. There should be joy! Joy in the LORD. Joy in Jesus. Joy in the Spirit.
We are encouraged to sing for joy.

“I’ve got joy, joy, joy down in my heart!
Down in my heart.
Down in my heart.
And its there to stay.”

I envision couple dancing a country two step or whimsical waltz.
Refuge / rejoice.
Rejoice / refuge.

Like all great things there must be passion and love. When we exhult and love God and all that His mighty name represents, He is blessed and enjoys sincere praise from His children. And what does a good father do in return?

Protect and bless even more abundantly. Isn’t it sweet to read, “You cover him (us, His adopted sons and daughters) with favor as with a shield.

We read in Psalm 31:19, “How great is Your goodness, Which You have stored up for those who fear You, which You have wrought for those who take refuge in You, before the sons of men!”.

A holy, healthy fear of God is an essential ingredient.

Won’t it be super sweet when we are in heaven and shields aren’t needed. When we shall see and know Him without the interference of our flesh and distance of a different dimension?

My prayer: “My lips will shout for joy when I sing praises to You; And my soul, which You have redeemed.” Psalm 71:23
