Pondering Psalms 46:1-3

“God is our refuge and strength,

a very present help in trouble.

Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way,

though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea,

though its waters roar and foam,

though the mountains tremble at its swelling. Selah”

Psalms 46:1 — 46:3

My take: Yes and amen. God, as much as I would prefer, doesn’t keep us from trouble. He doesn’t put us in bubble wrap. Like Jesus said, ‘go out as sheep amongst the wolves’. Not stay warm and cozy in the barn (self talk to me). As this passage illuminates, God is “very present help in trouble”. Jesus told us not to fear the one who can kill our body but look out for the invisible, the one who can destroy our soul. That is the ultimate battle. However, with fortification of Holy Spirit our destination is secure but without promise of a smooth ride.

My prayer: Jesus, precious Jesus, please help me heed your commandments, advice and example. Most everyone thought you were down and out hanging on that rugged Cross and then BOOM! I want to rise, shine and give You the glory!
