“And this we will do if God permits.”– Hebrews 6:3
My take: This brief sentence is packed full of theology and proper way to live. How so?
1) Because God has created us in His image we share some of our Creator’s attributes such as creating, imagination, and will. We are encouraged to be calculated risk takers. To set goals. To thrive amist chaos. To go for it. To have faith, confidence and strive for more and better. “And this we will do”
2) With all that said above we error if we fail to understand God’s will. Did you see that big two letter word “if”. Wow, “if” is the biggest small word in our vocabulary. “If God permits”.
James expounds on this so eloquintly, “Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”— yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.” As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil. So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.”
Also, its important to realize God works on a different time scale than we. Silence is not consent. We need to try our best to have a holistic perspective. One that weighs the immediate and long term outcome and results. Sin and immediate gratification are so deceptive.
The bottom line is the more in sync our will and God’s will are in harmony the better off the results shall play. He instructs that by prayer, Bible study and wise council we grow closer to Him and His prefect will.
My prayer: LORD, please help me rise higher in 2017 to execute better and better as we grow closer and closer.
