BE STRONG AND COURAGEOUS – Joshua 1:9

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9

My pondering: Wow, this passage is loaded with awesomeness. Lets look at these direct words from God to Moses.

Jos 1:1 — Jos 1:9

The Book of
JOSHUA
Chapter 1
God’s Commission to Joshua

After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, it came to pass that the Lord spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, saying: “Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them—the children of Israel. Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moses. From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the River Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your territory. No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you. Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them. Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

What can we believers glean and apply to our lives from this? A lot!

In these 9 verses, God tells Joshua 3x to be strong and courageous. 3x so that must be important.

As a born-again believer, we have at least some measure of the Holy Spirit within us and thus can rest assured God will never forsake us neither. The stronger and more courage we act via our faith, the greater filling we will have of His Spirit.

We haven’t been commanded to take the same land God commanded Joshua but we have a different land to seize. The land of opportunity God has placed before us. We each we enslaved in our own Egypt and each have had our own Canaan’s to conquer. The Jews were partially successful for some time but they faltered. They did some amazing things for God was with them. Yet, they stumbled and did not obey. They intermingled with idols, lived as pagans and did not fully exercise their God given conquest. They were their own worst enemy.

God instructed them to: “do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”

We need to focus on the mission, not turning to the left not right. We need to meditate and apply the principles within the Word regardless is the make sense at the time. We must apply truth and faith appropriately. For then we will make our way prosperous and successful by abiding and obeying.

My prayer: Lord, assist me this day to be bold on Your account while being wise and humble knowing apart from Thee I can do nothing eternal and little temporary.
