Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong. II Corinthians 12:10 NKJV
2 Cor 12:9
But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest on me.
Not only that, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?
2 Corinthians 5:15
And He died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died for them and was raised again.
2 Corinthians 5:20
Therefore we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making His appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ: Be reconciled to God.
2 Corinthians 6:4
Rather, as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: in great endurance; in troubles, hardships, and calamities;
2 Corinthians 13:4
For He was indeed crucified in weakness, yet He lives by God’s power. And though we are weak in Him, yet by God’s power we will live with Him to serve you.
2 Corinthians 13:9
In fact, we rejoice when we are weak but you are strong, and our prayer is for your perfection.
2 Thessalonians 1:4
That is why we boast among God’s churches about your perseverance and faith in the face of all the persecution and affliction you are enduring.
2 Timothy 3:11
my persecutions, and the sufferings that came upon me in Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra. What persecutions I endured! Yet the Lord rescued me from all of them.
Romans 8:28 And we know that God works all things together for the good of those who love Him, who are called according to His purpose.
But those who wait upon the LORD will renew their strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not faint.
2 Cor 4:7 Now we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this surpassingly great power is from God and not from us.
James 1:2-3 Consider it pure joy, my brothers, when you encounter trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.
Gill’s Exposition of the Entire Bible
We are troubled on every side,…. Or afflicted; , either “in every place”, wherever we are, into whatsoever country, city, or town we enter, we are sure to meet with trouble, of one sort or another; for wherever we be, we are in the world, in which we must expect tribulation: or “always”, every day and hour we live, as in 2 Corinthians 4:10 we are never free from one trial or another: or “by everyone”; by all sorts of persons, good and bad, professors and profane, open persecutors and false brethren; yea, some of the dear children of God, weak believers, give us trouble: or “with every sort” of trouble, inward and outward; trouble from the world, the flesh and the devil:
yet not distressed; so as to have no hope, or see no way of escape; so as to have no manner of comfort, or manifestations of the love of God; or so as to be straitened in our own souls; for notwithstanding all our troubles, we have freedom at the throne of grace, and in our ministry; we can go with liberty to God, and preach the Gospel boldly to you:
we are perplexed; and sometimes know not what to do, which way to take, what course to steer, or how we shall be relieved and supplied; we are sometimes at the utmost loss about things temporal, how we shall be provided for with food and raiment; nor are we without our perplexing thoughts, doubts, and fears, about spiritual affairs:
but not in despair; of the Lord’s appearing and working salvation, both in a temporal and spiritual sense.
Yes, God is that amazing that He, and only He, can turn what is meant for bad into good. He is so amazing that He, and only He, can can accomplish His will despite our will. Now that is awesomeness!
He turns our struggle into glory when we look to Him. When we see the ultimate purpose of our lives. I submit that purpose is to see His glory manifested in our lives where it is multiplied and maximized to Him. The parable of the talents is an example of this. Or Daniel tossed into the lion’s den or prior, he and his friends put into the fire. Paul bitten by the snake. There are so many examples.
We can ‘embrace the suck’ because we know in our heart of hearts, it shall work out provided we are focused on the good and God.
The Bible tells us if we are faithful to God, putting first things first, He has got it. We can relish in His wondrous works thru us. The more we give, the more we can expect. It’s not like He can be outdone or might run out of power or time. It is in His time, His glory.
Let us partake enthusiastically!
Oh God, You know full well I have come up short so many time in my half century of living. Just yesterday.
Yet today is a new day. Your grace is more than sufficient. I have a loving Savior who makes up for all of my inherited and self-developed shortcomings. Yet, I know greater are YOU than is in this world. My victory is assured by the blood shed on Calvary. Yes, ALL things work for the good to those who love YOU and follow hard after our purpose YOU have called me.
