RIGHT WEIGHED – Proverbs 21:2

Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the LORD weighs the heart.

1 Samuel 16:7
But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”

Pulpit Commentary
Verse 2. – All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes (Proverbs 21:2). He may deceive himself, and be blind to his own faults, or be following an ill-informed and ill-regulated conscience (Proverbs 12:15; Proverbs 14:12), yet this is no excuse in God’s eyes. The Lord weigheth the spirits. Not the “ways,” the outward life and actions only, but motives, intentions, dispositions (Hebrews 4:12). He too knows our secret faults, unsuspected by others, and perhaps by ourselves (Psalm 19:12). The Septuagint has here, “All the works of the humble are manifest before God, but the impious shall perish in an evil day.” The next verse is omitted in the Greek; and the other clauses up to ver. 8 are dislocated.

M. Henry writes: Ignorance, pride, and self-flattery render us partial judges respecting our own conduct.

Oh my, isn’t this so clear yet so deceptive so many fronts. It is so much easier to spot in others and so challenging from our own perspective. I’d say if you don’t think so then you are either so unaware and ignorant that it encompassed your self totally or you have arrived prematurely and are just like Jesus. I suspect its the encompassed one.

Self awareness and perspective is so important and difficult. Our personal will and pride can drive us to accomplish much yet unchecked and subservient to God it is a beast.

The LORD weighs our hearts, motivations, purposes, attitude and wants.
We are all no doubt out of sync and askew from God’s original design since the great fall but unlike Humpty Dumpty who could not be repaired by the king’s men, the King of Kings can do it by the work of Christ. Now we are being transformed but then in Heaven we shall be cured and mad right. Amen? AMEN!

Heavenly Father, I need Thee every hour. Thank YOU for the grace, mercy and imputed righteousness of Jesus onto my behalf!
