Talk about MINDSET!
This is so good from King David. He would know what it is like to rise to the battle and occasion. Imagine going up against. a lion, bear and Goliath with a sling and a few rocks? And winning! And winning against in war time after time. And surviving against a jealous King Saul.
What can we glean in this brief passage? A lot.
1) David puts God 1st, before him. “I have set the LORD always before me”. What a motto! Look at all he accomplished. We must decrease so He can increase. Of course David had his moments but he no doubt was ‘all in with God’. What a mindset this is.
2) David then tells us where he gets his power; from God. Because God is at his right hand, there with him….David was empowered in those days God’s Spirit when to and fro and landed on specific anointed individuals namely prophets. Today its different. Each believer as access to the Spirit. Act 1:8, “you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you…” and in 2 Timothy 1:7, “for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”
Romans 8:14, “For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!””
My prayer: from Romans 15:13, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.”
