Self-inflicted Isolation – Proverbs‬ ‭18:1‬

“A man who isolates himself seeks his own desire;

He rages against all wise judgment.”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭18:1‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

I suppose we can either build:

fences or bridges,

walls or doors,

locks or stairs.

There is nothing wrong with some solitude and quiet time but when we isolate our decision making and interaction as we ‘know it all’, we are setting ourselves up for a great fall.

True is the saying:

When a man is wrapped up in himself,

he makes a pretty small package.

John Ruskin

and this quote is appropriate:

No man is an island, entire to himself.

John Donne

Here is the poem that quote came from:

No man is an island,
Entire of itself,
Every man is a piece of the continent,
A part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less.
As well as if a promontory were.
As well as if a manor of thy friend's
Or of thine own were:
Any man's death diminishes me,
Because I am involved in mankind,
And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls;
It tolls for thee.
John Donne

God created us for fellowship with Him and each other. Thus the two great commandments (Love Him, Love others).
