May God, who gives this patience and encouragement, help you live in complete harmony with each other, as is fitting for followers of Christ Jesus. Romans 15:5 NLT
Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus, that you may with one mind and one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Romans 15:5-6 NKJV
Like-minded toward one another
To be like-minded. . . .–To have the same thoughts, feelings, sentiments, hopes, and aims.
One-mind and mouth glorify God
Noun – Genitive Feminine Singular
Strong’s Greek 5281: Endurance, steadfastness, patient waiting for. From hupomeno; cheerful endurance, constancy.
Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but enjoy the company of the lowly. Do not be conceited.
then make my joy complete by being of one mind, having the same love, being united in spirit and purpose.
1 Peter 3:8
Finally, all of you, be like-minded and sympathetic, love as brothers, be tender-hearted and humble.
Those are most learned who are most mighty in the Scriptures. That comfort which springs from the word of God is the surest and sweetest, and the greatest stay to hope. The Spirit as a Comforter is the earnest of our inheritance. This like-mindedness must be according to the precept of Christ, according to his pattern and example. It is the gift of God; and a precious gift it is, for which we must earnestly seek unto him. Our Divine Master invites his disciples and encourages them by showing himself as meek and lowly in spirit. The same disposition ought to mark the conduct of his servants, especially of the strong towards the weak. The great end in all our actions must be, that God may be glorified; nothing more forwards this than the mutual love and kindness of those who profess religion. Those that agree in Christ may well agree among themselves.
As Christian, we are of course to follow the greatest Christian, Christ Himself, as our true example. He is the model we are the clay.
It has been well said, that in essentials, essential godly principles, and core Biblical doctrine, there must be unity. In non-essentials, the preferences of style and uniqueness, there should be liberty. And in all things; love.
When groups of believers get this wrong it springs forth discord, cults, and error. I can’t imagine anything irking Jesus more than seeing His disciples bicker and fight each other rather than the true enemy.
We need to keep the main thing, the main thing.
Pride is the root of many kinds of evil and I suspect the primary instigator of most problems among us humans. Our ego needs to be checked in line with Jesus and not swayed and deceived by Satan. So let’s boast in God alone, for He has enabled any and all good to happen; including our free will. Therefore, we should use it to seek unity, harmony and in all things, love!
Don’t blame God for religious confusion. “There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all (Ephesians 4)”
This Scripture is the ultimate litmus test. I hope you and I both pass with flying colors.
If we love our Christian brothers and sisters, it proves that we have passed from death to life. But a person who has no love is still dead. (1 John 3:14 NLT)
I know I need to work and abide. I know that I know and that is a good start but needs to grow. How about you?
God almighty, help me keep the truest, essential non-things front and center and humble myself in the rest.
